With so much natural beauty on your doorstep Budleigh Salterton is an ideal choice for those who love the great outdoors.
The Nature Reserve and the River Otter are home to beavers, otters and a host of other wildlife.
There are estimated to be 13 beavers now living on the river. They appear to be in three family groups between Honiton and the river
estuary at Budleigh Salterton and are mostly nocturnal so difficult to see. They are entirely herbivorous and graze riverside plants like
yellow flag iris and Himalayan balsam in the summer and willow in the winter.
This area of East Devon has the extra advantage of summer visitors, such as Nightjars, Wheatears and Warblers,
followed by over the winter flocks of wader, ducks and geese on the estuaries of the River Exe, Otter and Axe.
The distinctly different habitats of estuary, field, woodland and heathland offer
the keen birdwatcher many opportunities to enjoy a visit to the area.
