18Budleigh Salterton - South West Coast Path
More than just a unique resort, Budleigh Salterton is a gateway
to the South West Coast Path. The path is easy to follow from the
seafront and takes you either towards Exmouth or Ladram Bay.
The South West Coast Path
The section from Exmouth to Lyme Regis through Budleigh
Salterton offers spectacular views and features, as it undulates
between beach level and high points like Peak Hill and
Salcombe Hill near Sidmouth. From Budleigh many of these can
be incorporated into shorter circular walks or accessed by public
transport, thus allowing you to plan ‘Walk out - Bus back’ outings.
This extensive range of commons, within a few miles of the
town, is extremely rich in wildlife and natural history, and contain
the geologically important Pebblebed Heaths. There are several
well placed car parks which allow walkers of all ages and abilities
the opportunity to enjoy this unique area.
The Otter Estuary and River
Follow the river up from Ottermouth to the villages of Otterton
and Harpford through a beautiful area of peaceful farmland, rich
in birdlife and all sorts of flora and fauna.
Throughout the year there are different programmes of
guided walks, some with a bias towards wildlife or history. The
Information Centre will be able to help with more details.
